Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 2, 2026 · Last updated: March 2, 2026

Froog (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website located at froog.io (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, and your choices regarding that information. By accessing or using the Service you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

a) Information you provide directly. When you create an account, subscribe, or contact us, we may collect:

  • Account information — name, email address, and password.
  • Location — zip code or postal code you enter to receive localized price results.
  • Grocery data — shopping lists, cart contents, and saved carts you create within the Service.
  • Membership preferences — retailer memberships you indicate (e.g., Amazon Prime, Walmart+, PC Optimum).
  • Payment information — if you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by PayPal, which acts as an independent data controller for your payment data. We do not receive or store your full credit card or bank account details on our servers. For details on how PayPal collects and uses your information, please see the PayPal Privacy Statement.
  • Communications — any messages, feedback, or support requests you send us.

b) Information collected automatically. When you use the Service, we automatically receive:

  • Device & browser data — IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, screen resolution, and language preference.
  • Usage data — pages visited, features used, referring URLs, timestamps, and session duration.
  • Cookies & similar technologies — see Section 5 below.

c) Information from third parties. We may receive limited information from authentication providers (e.g., Google or GitHub OAuth) if you choose to sign in through a third-party service. This typically includes your name, email address, and profile picture.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service — including comparing grocery prices, optimizing carts across retailers, and personalizing results based on your location and memberships.
  • Process subscriptions and payments through our payment processor.
  • Send transactional emails (account confirmations, password resets, subscription receipts) and, where you have opted in, promotional communications about new features or offers.
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve performance, fix bugs, and develop new features.
  • Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, or technical issues.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers — trusted third parties that help us operate the Service (hosting, analytics, payment processing, email delivery). These providers are contractually obligated to use your data only for the purposes we specify.
  • Analytics — we use PostHog to understand how the Service is used. PostHog acts as a data processor on our behalf under a Data Processing Agreement and collects anonymized or pseudonymized usage data such as pages visited, events, and device information.
  • Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Froog, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers — if Froog is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change via email or a prominent notice on the Service.

We do not share your grocery lists, cart data, or membership preferences with retailers or advertisers.

4. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., billing records). Anonymized, aggregated data that cannot identify you may be retained indefinitely for analytics purposes.

5. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Essential cookies — maintain your session, remember your login state, and ensure the Service functions correctly.
  • Analytics cookies — understand how visitors interact with the Service so we can improve it. We use PostHog, which may set its own cookies.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies or retargeting pixels. You can configure your browser to block or delete cookies, but doing so may affect the functionality of the Service.

6. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include encryption of data in transit (TLS/HTTPS), secure storage of credentials, and access controls limiting employee access to personal data. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100 % secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Rights & Choices

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access & portability — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Deletion — request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements.
  • Opt-out of marketing — unsubscribe from promotional emails at any time using the link in each email or by contacting us.
  • Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@froog.io. We will respond within 30 days.

8. International Data Transfers

The Service is operated from servers located in the United States and Canada. If you access the Service from outside these countries, your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in a jurisdiction whose data protection laws may differ from those in your country. By using the Service, you consent to such transfers.

9. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 14. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected data from a child under 14, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@froog.io.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated policy on this page with a revised “Last updated” date and, if appropriate, via email. Your continued use of the Service after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
